Mornington student still waiting for a seat
MORNINGTON Secondary student Charlie Scott still doesn't have a seat on the bus.
And the Department of Transport last week said it still had not been contacted by his school.
Department spokeswoman Andrea Duckworth said it was up to the college to contact the department to highlight shortfalls in the bus service system.
Charlie's father John Short said he was still forced to pay for a taxi to get his son to and from school due to a lack of space on the school bus.
"We're only after a bus seat. This isn't a personal attack on anyone," Mr Short said.
"There is a trial bus service between Hastings and Mornington, but it starts after 9am. It doesn't cater for kids and schools."
Portsea Passenger Service manager Michael Thorn confirmed a Hastings to Mornington bus service, a Mornington Peninsula Council initiative, would be on trial for a month.
Nepean Liberal MP Martin Dixon said Charlie's situation was "ridiculous ... in this day and age it shouldn't happen".
College principal Sarah Burns declined to comment.
College council president Col Mason said the school had contacted the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development about the issue.
The Leader reported last week that Mr Short paid $50 each day for Charlie, 14, to travel to and from school in a taxi.
