Peninsula gets `big fat zero'

PENINSULA MPs say their electorates have been overlooked in the State Budget.

Mornington Liberal MP David Morris said his electorate received a ``big fat zero'', while Nepean Liberal MP Martin Dixon said the peninsula had been treated as ``irrelevant''.

Mr Morris said the only local project listed was a minor upgrade of the Mt Martha sewerage treatment plant ($675,000) and $1 million for an education centre at the same location.

``The State Budget has failed to deliver any relief for peninsula residents already struggling with congested roads, inadequate public transport and increasingly violent streets,'' he said.

Mr Dixon said he could not find any funding for Rosebud Hospital or any new funding for much-needed beach reclamation works.

``We've missed out on spending in the major portfolios,'' he said.

``I can't remember the last time we've got nothing in terms of direct assets.''

Some peninsula commuters will, however, benefit from funding for Melbourne's train network.

Seaford station, on the Frankston line, is one of 20 stations to be upgraded to a premium station to be staffed from first train to last, seven days a week.

Frankston Hospital will get a new bed for its intensive care unit.

Executive director Brendon Gardner welcomed the news.

``This means we will have nine ICU beds and helps ensure we have more of the best facilities available,'' he said.
