Martin Dixon MP

Biography

Martin was first elected to the Victorian Parliament as the Member for Dromana 1996 and then re-elected in 1999. Following a redistribution of electorate boundaries in 2001 Dromana electorate was abolished and he was then re-elected as the first Member for Nepean in November 2002 and again in 2006.

Martin was educated at Marcellin College, Bulleen, Australian Catholic University and La Trobe University. He holds a Diploma of Teaching and Bachelor of Education. After four years of teaching he moved on to become principal of three schools over fifteen years, finally becoming Deputy Chairman, Primary Education, Catholic Education Office, Melbourne.

He has been a member of four Joint Parliamentary Committees and was Secretary of the Parliamentary Liberal Party, Opposition Parliamentary Secretary for Education, Opposition Spokesman for Tertiary Education and Training, Opposition Spokesman on Tourism, Opposition Whip, Shadow Minister for Tourism, Shadow Minister for Community Services, Shadow Minister for Education and Training, Shadow Minister for Education Services, Skills and Employment, Shadow Minister for Innovation, Shadow Minister for Victorian Communities and Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs. Martin is currently Shadow Minister for Education. Martin is also a member of the Commonwealth Election Observers Panel.

Together with his wife Chris and two children, he has lived in Rye for twenty-seven years. His interests are reading, architecture, cars and aviation. He enjoys waterskiing, tennis and golf.
